A refreshing dry Rosé, richly perfumed with aromas of ripe strawberries and tangerine. Compelling and complex with subtle flinty notes, lemon thyme and a little spice as it unfurls in the glass.
It’s just a little above your regular Rosé in terms of weight – a smooth gloss and creaminess, the flavours glide seamlessly along the palate. Ripe strawberry, blood orange and a hint of dried herbs. Bright citrus acidity lifts the flavours and zips them through to a dry and gently textured finish. Complex, beautifully balanced with exceptional texture and excellent length.
The 2022 sold out before it could be reviewed but past vintages have received some lovely accolades...
2021 Bastardo - SILVER MEDAL - 93 POINTS
"This is savoury, chewy, meaty and briny, all of which bolt onto the red berry fruit in the mouth. It is medium bodied, dry and a classic food rosé. Very, very good, in what was otherwise a challenging vintage."
Erin Larkin, Wine Companion, 3 August 2022
2020 Bastardo - SILVER MEDAL - 93 POINTS
"This is no shrinking violet. The wine verges on full bodied with layers of phenolics that serve as shelves for the fruit: raspberry, salted heirloom tomato, red apple and redcurrant. A lot to like here, a lot to think about as well."
Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion, 16 August 2021
2018 Bastardo - GOLD MEDAL - 95 POINTS
"More orange than pink in colour - pale. Cherry aromas, quietly so, savoury - more botanicals than fruit. The palate shows great energy and precision. Quality fruit, balance and measured acidity. A delicious wine."
Nick Butler, The Real Review, 5 August 2019
2017 Bastardo - 92 points
"Light salmon pink hue and a savoury, subtle, clean bouquet and palate with savoury dryness and good balance. Very dry, and the finish is tight and long. Excellent."
