A rugged name for a variety that produces elegant wines. Bastardo is a Portuguese variety traditionally used in Port blends.

At our vineyard in the Preston Valley, Bastardo is a vigorous vine that grows small bunches which ripen very early in the growing season. Bastardo picked early for rosé are some of the first grapes to be harvested in the South West each season - often dragging our beloved winemakers back early from their summer holiday!

We have found Bastardo to be a very versatile grape and use it to make three different wines:

  • Sparkling Bastardo (very excited about this - coming in 2026)
  • Bastardo Rosé - our much-loved dry rose
  • Fortified Bastardo Touriga Nacional blend - our only sweet wine and an absolute delight
